Anyone else stuck watching “The Sing Off” because, like me, you live in a snowy tundra — it’s not like I have social interactions planned anyway — and have no cable?
Ah, I am but a loner. But you do watch the show?
How about this group Committed, which Pussycat Doll-turned-judge Nicole Scherzinger described as going “from the church to the club”? They’re an interesting group of young men who began singing together in a church group as a way to ”minister to audiences of all kinds,” according to the group’s MySpace page. Correct me if I’m wrong, but did just hear their acappella rendition of “Make Love in this Club”? It’s my hope of hopes that they’re singing this to their chaste-until-marriage future wives…
With that said, what makes a singer or band a Christian one? Is there a point when a gospel-hawking set of vocalists push it too far to the mainstream?

Quite frankly I’ve been a fan of this group and really hope they win the competition (though I’ve missed the last episode and I’m not sure if they’re still in it). I think they are and if so It’s my hope that they win. They’re too good of singers to not win.
That being said, the unfortunate thing about a Christian group like this is that they joined a secular competition and thus will be required to sing secular songs, usually ones that are the judges choice. I would love to know how much say a group like this has in which songs they will or will not sing. Or even if they wanted to sing a song like this.
I think that the thing that makes a Christian band a Christian band is the clear message of Christianity in their music. That’s not to say that they can’t sing secular songs. It would be ludicrous to say that they couldn’t sing them (even for fun). But the music that they produce and sell are songs with a clear Christian message.
I’m personally rooting for these guys, too
Just an interesting challenge for them to sing a song that is so far from the typical Christian band’s selection. I’m also really interested to see what kind of influence the band has — if any — on the song selection.
Finale was tonight but I missed it again. x3 I’ll have to check the NBC site to see who won then.
I’ve always been interested about that too. I’m sure that they do get to choose songs most of the time. I only know of one episode where the songs were judges’ choice. The first episode they got to choose their own song for sure. But I wonder if they have to run it by producers or something. I’m sure they do since they’re singing copyrighted songs.
